Pats/Colts Preview

HIIIIIIII FOLKS! Well, I got a request to do a Patriots/Colts breakdown, and frankly, anything I can do to kill time before picking up my girl Friday is worth doing, so what the hell. Shall we?

Lets touch on the Colts first. Frankly, their offense isn't as good as it was. It's banged up right now. Gonzalez might not play, Wayne likely will but is hurt, Clark is banged up, and so on. They aren't the firepower they were. HOWEVER.

Peyton Manning, as much as I hate the little fucker, is playing as well as he ever has, and he' making it work. His receivers aren't as good as they have been in years past, and his running game backing him up certainly isn't. Addai is a shell of his former self. Not crap, but not nearly as good as he was.

The Patriots offense? Depends what you want to look at. Maroney has shown more fire in a few games this year then I've ever seen out of him. He's been putting his head down and slamming into people, where in the past he'd run like a pussy to the sideline.  Moss has been tearing it up lately, Welker hasn't been as active as Patriot fans are used to but still very, very good. Watson is having his best year by far.

Not a lot of separation there, two pretty even offenses, with the Patriots having a slight edge.

The defenses are interesting. This would be a landslide advantage Patriots in years past, even with their fucking pathetic secondary of last year. The Colts defense was simply that bad.

This year it looks a lot better, for reasons I can't even define. Bob Sanders being out is irrelevant, he's the most overrated player in the NFL and he never fucking plays anyway. That won't hurt them.

The Patriots defense has been below average getting to the passer, but far better at pass coverage than anyone could have expected going into the year. Blitz power against Manning isn't very important, since if you blitz him, he's going to kill you anyway. The line not being able to get there is a bit of a concern though.

Defense? Slight advantage Colts. I think they're even everywhere except QB pressure, Indy has a little more going on there.

Special teams, short and sweet. Gostkowski is destroying balls on kickoffs and has been pretty consistent between the uprights. Colts? Fuck them. Advantage Patriots.

I think this is going to be a lot lower scoring than people expect it to be. In the unlikely event the referees don't completely fuck them over like they do every time they play the Colts, I like the Patriots pulling it out, 24-21.
